A BRITISH tourist was saved from the brink of death after his wife and a Costa del Sol property owner heroically stepped in when he suffered a shock heart attack.

The 61-year-old man was spending his holiday at a rented rural home near Frigiliana, Malaga, when he suddenly collapsed at around 2pm on Wednesday.

His wife immediately alerted the holiday home’s owner, named by the Spanish press only as Manuel, who called emergency services and rushed in to perform CPR on the stricken Brit.

The pair continued their resuscitation efforts for around 30 minutes before emergency responders arrived at the property and took over.

The man was stabilised after another 30 minutes of tireless work by paramedics before being taken to Malaga’s Regional University Hospital.

Sources told Diario SUR that the Brit’s condition has since improved.

Emergency responders later praised the man’s wife and Manuel for acting so quickly, saying their intervention had been crucial in saving his life.

The dramatic rescue unfolded in a rural part of Frigiliana, a picturesque whitewashed village in the hills of the Axarquia region, east of Malaga.

The area is popular with British holidaymakers looking for a quieter alternative to the Costa del Sol’s busy coastal resorts, with rural villas scattered across the surrounding mountains.

But the remote setting can also make medical emergencies particularly challenging, making the quick response of people nearby all the more important.
