MOST of Spain has been placed under yellow and orange warnings for extreme weather on Thursday.
The State Meteorological Agency(Aemet) has warned about high temperatures, rain or strong storms across 16 regions.
Orange alerts for ‘serious danger’ have been issued in 11 areas.
The list includes parts of Andalucia, Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalunia, Extremadura, Galicia, the Community of Madrid, Navarre, the Basque Country and La Rioja.
In those effected areas of Andalucia, Aragon, and Castilla-La Mancha, the alerts will run between 1pm and 10pm for excess heat, rainfall that will leave notable accumulations and strong storms in several parts.
In Granada province, in areas such as the Genil Basin, temperatures could reach up to 40C throughout the day.
In rural areas of Sevilla, a significant risk of extreme heat has been forecast while in Almera, storms are expected in the Almanzora Valley and Los Velez, accompanied in some instances by strong gusts of wind and hail as well as rainfall that could accumulate up to 20 litres per m2.
Over in Aragon, there are intense heat warnings for Huesca and Zaragoza provincces, with excess rain and storms added to the alert in Teruel.
Parts of Castilla-La Mancha will see temperatures hit 40C in Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo.
A similar picture applies to Castilla y Leon, where Avila and Burgos provinces will be hit by extreme heat, while in Catalunya, 40C will be recorded in Lleida and Tarragona.
Aemet added that it will be very hot in Extremadura, Galicia and the Madrid region, as well as Navarre, the Basque Country and La Rioja.
Yellow warnings for temperatures reaching 37C have been issued for Gran Canaria, as well as parts of the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, the Murcia region, and the Valencian Community.
