Marbella police officer rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg

A POLICE officer was rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while inside a station on the Costa del Sol.

The Policia Nacional officer was in Marbella station guard post when his weapon accidentally fired on Sunday, police sources told Spanish press agency EFE.

He was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to police sources.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

Police have not revealed what caused the weapon to fire or what the officer was doing when the accident happened.

An investigation is expected to establish how the accidental discharge occurred.
