SPAIN’S top tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, will return to the sport this month to defend his US Open title in New York after a four-month lay-off caused by a wrist injury.
The seven-time grand slam champion from Murcia last played in April and declared his comeback on social media.
Posting on the X platform, Alcaraz kept it brief and said: “Here we go!”, alongside an American flag.

The 23-year-old missed out on defending the French Open title and playing at Wimbledon before he pulled out of the Cincinnati Open at the start of August.
He also scratched from a string of ATP events including those in Madrid, Rome, and Queen’s Club in London.
The problems started during the first round of the Barcelona Open in his match Otto Virtanen, and since then there has been constant speculation about when the Spaniard might return.
Alcaraz made it a top priority to recover from his wrist injury rather than playing.
The cost was giving up his world number one ranking to his main rival Jannik Sinner- having lost over 6,000 ranking points due to his absence.
There is a doubt though about the Italian playing at Flushing Meadow due to a knee injury.
This month, Carlos Alcaraz trained with his friend, the Danish player Holger Rune in his home area of Murcia at the Club de Campo del Palmar.
Rune himself has been out with Achilles tendon problems.
The two players have known each other since playing against each other aged 12 in a Mallorca tournament.
Alcaraz is expected to travel to New York early next week to prepare for the final slam of the year which starts the following weekend.
