AN Italian man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing his German partner to death while the couple were on a camping holiday in Andalucia.
The 60-year-old suspect and his 47-year-old partner were staying together in a caravan in Isla Cristina, a fishing town on Huelva’s Costa de la Luz near the Portuguese border, according to Huelva Hoy.
The Guardia Civil said in a brief statement that officers found the woman’s lifeless body near Playa de la Gaviota at around 9am on Friday, showing signs of violence from a bladed weapon.
It was reported that he stabbed her multiple times before surrendering to the Guardia Civil without resisting arrest.
It is being investigated as a possible case of gender violence, a category under Spanish law covering killings by a current or former partner that carries specific aggravating circumstances in court.
Isla Cristina was also the scene of a separate, unrelated attack on August 16, when hooded gunmen shot dead a pregnant woman, her mother and a 16-year-old bystander in a suspected gang score-settling that remains unsolved.
The pregnant victim’s unborn baby also later died, taking that toll to four.
