A POLISH man was rushed to hospital on Thursday evening after losing a hand in a freak railway accident in Alicante.

The man, aged in his late forties, was walking alongside railway tracks in the San Gabriel neighbourhood when a passing train generated a powerful air vortex that dragged him towards it.

He suffered a sudden amputation to one of his hands in the incident, as well as injuries to his legs.

Police officers were called to the scene and quickly applied a tourniquet to the man’s arm to control the severe bleeding.

The section of the track where the accident happened was fenced off, according to local authorities.
