HOLIDAYMAKERS were forced to evacuate a Jet2 plane at Tenerife South Airport on Friday morning after a passenger claimed to have a bomb in their luggage.
The flight was due to take off from the popular holiday destination at 11:20am local time to London Stansted but was delayed by more than two hours after the incident triggered the airport’s security protocol.
The Guardia Civil evacuated the aircraft before carrying out an inspection of the cabin and all baggage.
After the checks were completed, passengers were allowed to re-board the aircraft with the flight taking off at 1.46pm – two hours and 22 minutes behind schedule.
The incident also caused some temporary disruption to airport operations.
A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We can confirm that customers were asked to disembark a flight at Tenerife South Airport yesterday following an incident involving a passenger onboard.
“Customers have since reboarded and the flight has now landed at London Stansted as planned.
“We would like to apologise to everyone onboard for the delay and any inconvenience caused.”
Authorities have not yet released further details about the passengers who allegedly made the threat, including whether they were arrested.
