VOX leader Santiago Abascal has announced a big public rally in Estepona this weekend ahead of Spain’s general election on November 29.

The far-right party’s leader will speak from 6pm at the Sol Marbella Estepona Atalaya Park hotel on Sunday, October 11.

It is the first major political rally in Malaga province during the pre-campaign, the weeks before the official campaign begins.

Abascal is expected to be joined by Manuel Gavira, Vox’s leader in Andalucia and second vice-president of the Junta de Andalucia.

Andalucia was chosen because it elects more MPs than any other region, 60, and is the latest where Vox has struck a government deal with the conservative Partido Popular (PP), the newspaper said.

Polls suggest the same alliance could be repeated in Madrid after the vote.

Estepona town hall said in 2019 that foreign nationals made up more than 25% of its 72,137 registered residents, with Brits the largest group at 4,615.

The rally comes a day after Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, leader of the Socialist party PSOE, opens his own pre-campaign with a rally in Dos Hermanas, in the province of Seville.

Sunday is also the eve of Spain’s national day on October 12, and Abascal has yet to say whether he will attend the military parade and royal reception, which he skipped last year.
