SPAIN’S public holidays for 2027 have been confirmed, and workers across the country will get at least four long weekends.

The calendar was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on Tuesday. It includes nine national holidays, the same number as this year.

In total, though, there will be 14 public holidays in 2027. Twelve are national or regional, and two are local holidays set by each region.

The four long weekends everyone gets fall at New Year, Good Friday, All Saints’ and Constitution Day. The December one is the best of the lot. Anyone who can take Tuesday December 7 off can join Constitution Day to the Immaculate Conception the following day and get a five-day puente, or ‘bridge’.

The calendar is set each year by the Labour Ministry’s Directorate General of Labour, but Spain’s regions have a fair amount of say over their own dates.

Regions can move some of the national holidays to other days. They can also swap the Monday off that follows a national holiday falling on a Sunday for one of their own traditional celebrations.

If too few national holidays fall on a Sunday to make room for a regional favourite, a region can add one extra day on top of the usual 14, but workers have to make up the hours.

They are New Year’s Day (Friday January 1), Good Friday (March 26), Labour Day (Saturday May 1), the Assumption (Sunday August 15), Spain’s National Day (Tuesday October 12), All Saints’ Day (Monday November 1), Constitution Day (Monday December 6), the Immaculate Conception (Wednesday December 8) and Christmas Day (Saturday December 25).

Epiphany, or Three Kings’ Day, on Wednesday January 6 will also be a holiday everywhere. Regions could have moved it, but all have chosen to keep it.

Maundy Thursday (March 25) will be a holiday in every region except Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

Monday-to-Friday workers miss out on two days off, though, because May Day and Christmas Day both land on a Saturday.

Regions have some leeway to add their own holidays. San Jose (Friday March 19) will be a holiday in Galicia, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra and the Valencian Community. Easter Monday (March 29) will be a holiday in the Balearics, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, the Valencian Community and La Rioja.

Because the Assumption falls on a Sunday, the following Monday (August 16) will be a day off in Andalucia, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla y Leon and Madrid.

Easter will be a four-day weekend in regions that keep Maundy Thursday. In the Balearics, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja, which also have Easter Monday, it stretches to five days. Catalonia and the Valencian Community have Easter Monday instead of Maundy Thursday, so they also get four days.
