Junta delays golf plans

by

THE regional government has delayed its announcement on its new golf legislation until after the summer.

The Olive Press understands the new plans could put into doubt the projected 100 new golf courses for the region.

It is believed restrictions are to be placed on the amount of homes and hotel beds annexed to a golf course as well as tougher measures on the use of water to maintain the greens.

The new ruling will also prohibit the building of golf complexes close to reservoirs, lakes and beaches.

A spokesman for the PSOE-run Junta de Andalucia said: “These plans will harmonise urban legislation with the need for quality tourism.

“A golf course is not an excuse for urban development.”

The Partido Popular opposition claims the plans could slow down the economic development of Andalucia and put jobs at risk.
