Benidorm introduces high-tech system to help locals and tourists find car park spaces

BENIDORM is now providing ‘real-time’ details about car park spaces via its roadside information signs.

The City Council says it is part of its commitment to sustainable mobility and improving the urban environment.

The new service has been launched in time for the peak season influx of tourists to the popular Costa Blanca resort.

COUNCILLOR MUÑOZ

Benidorm’s Mobility councillor, Francis Muñoz, said: “The signs will allow people to access details at all times about car park occupancy via the information screens located around the urban area and the main access roads to the municipality.”

“It will make it much easier to work out where to park your vehicle based on available spaces,” he added.

Muñoz stated that the measure is ‘part of the comprehensive sustainable mobility strategy promoted in Benidorm, linked to European decarbonisation targets aimed at creating a more efficient, accessible and healthy city’.

“This encourages motorists to leave their cars at parking lots and to use more efficient and environmentally friendly modes of transport to reach their destinations such as public transport, cycling or walking.”

INFO BOARD

The first car parks to be linked to the information boards are Foietes, Marina Baixa, Adolfo Suarez and Recinto Ferial.

“Thanks to this information, drivers will be able to plan their journeys better, reduce car parking search times and contribute to less traffic in the city centre with reduced pollution and an improvement in air quality,” added Muñoz.

He claimed the parking information system reinforces Benidorm’s standing as a benchmark in urban innovation, digitalisation and sustainability which helps protect the environment.
