JON Bon Jovi has revealed that his band is dropping the performance fee for its Madrid concert in light of Spain’s financial woes.

The US rock star told El Mundo that the band’s European tour was not originally going to visit Spain due to fears that tickets would not sell in the cash-strapped country.

But out of loyalty to the fans the band decided they would put Madrid back on the schedule by performing for free to keep ticket prices low.

The price of the tickets will cover just the cost of the venue, operating costs and the salaries of staff on the ground at the event.

The €76 tickets for the June 27 concert in the Spanish capital were available for between €18 and €39.

Bon Jovi’s Because We Can tour begins in Denmark, before undertaking a number of dates in Britain, where ticket prices range from £65 to £295.

“When we were planning our tour to promote our new album, we did a study and saw that, given the economic crisis, Spain wasn’t even on the map,” Bon Jovi told the Spanish newspaper.

“But we didn’t want to forget all about our fans in a country which I love, and which has treated me so well for 30 years.”

The unusually cheap tickets for the concert at the Vicente Calderón stadium have already sold out.

  1. It says waived their fee not free. In order for stage hands, lighting crews and local people who work the concerts to get paid the venue itself still have to have a fee just the band decided not to charge and play for free.
