SPAIN is sending one million condoms to Africa.
The department of health has pledged 120,000 euros in prophylactics to help fight the continent’s AIDS epidemic.
The offer comes amid an international furore over a comment made by Pope Benedict XVI claiming that the problem of AIDS cannot be resolved with condoms.
This is not the first time Zapatero’s government has opposed the Vatican which also disapproves of Spain’s legalisation of gay marriage and relaxed divorce laws.
The ministry commented: “The aim is to advance the prevention of this epidemic, which affects 33million people all over the world, two-thirds of them in Africa.”
