A YOUTUBE video of the ‘most dangerous path in the world’ has gone viral sending adrenalin junkies flocking to the south of Spain.

The Caminito Del Rey, a crumbling walkway teetering over 100 meters high in El Chorro Gorge, was originally built in 1905 for workers to travel between two hydroelectric power plants but was closed in 2000 after two walkers fell to their deaths.

Now, with the sudden popularity of the video of a walker tackling the trail there has been a surge in interest and companies have begun offering unofficial tours for anyone with a good head of heights.

It comes as the 110-year-old path is set to be refurbished next year in an 8.3 million project to make the pathway safe again and attract more tourists to the area.

It will take three years to re-construct and will see the pathway completely rebuilt with hand rails, protective barriers, lighting and a visitors centre.
