Attempted robbery on the Rock

A MAN has appeared before magistrates in Gibraltar charged with attempted robbery following an incident at Jyske Bank on Main Street.

Roderick Macdonald, 50, was arrested after allegedly passing a note to a bank clerk claiming he was armed and demanding cash.

The British national, of no fixed address, was unarmed when confronted by police officers in the busy shopping street shortly after walking into the bank around midday.

Wearing a grey hooded top and blue trousers, Macdonald told the court he was retired and had no form of income.

He was remanded in custody and the case has been referred to the Supreme Court.
