THE creator of Super Mario has scooped this year’s Prince of Asturias award.

59-year-old Shigeru Miyamoto – considered the Walt Disney of video games – was finally named the winner of the Communication and Humanities category after having made the shortlist on two previous occasions.

The Japanese creator, who has worked for Nintendo since 1977, is the brain behind games including Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Wii Fit, and Brain Training.
