Increased drink driving penalties in Spain

drink driving

THE Spanish government has just announced plans to double the penalty for drink driving.

The new law will impose a fine of €1,000 on anyone caught driving while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.

Luis Aguilera, under-secretary of the Interior Ministry, says the proposal will go before Cabinet in the next few weeks.

  1. A good idea would be to inform people the legally limits. I own a Spanish bar and the high level of drink driving is shocking. A lot of locals don’t even consider drinking beer as alcohol and regularly have a few beers with lunch before jumping back into their cars. A normal spirit mixer here would put most normal people over the legal limit but sadly people aren’t aware of that and those who are just aren’t scared of the consequences.
