Ex-Sevilla mayor accussed of accepting luxury handbag bribe to rig council vote

A FORMER Sevilla mayor has been accused of accepting a luxury handbag as a bribe.

Ex-mayor of Bormujos Ana Hermoso will stand trial for selling her council vote in exchange for a  €2,000 Loewe handbag.

The bag was allegedly given to her by scandal-ridden businessman Jesus Calvo before she cast her vote.

Calvo is accused of money laundering, tax fraud, influence peddling and accepting bribes in the Gurtel case, a nationwide investigation into kickbacks for public contracts by businessmen and political officials.

Hermoso denies the charge.
