THEY say an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

But it was severe depression that made a Sevilla doctor flee Spain, get declared dead, only to be found in a tent in Italy 19 years later.

Mushroom pickers found Carlos Sanchez Ortiz de Salazar, 47, deep in a Tuscan forest, who told them he had lived there since 1997.

The beardy forest-dweller had been legally declared dead in 2010 and his elated family flew to Italy to find him.

But the nomad had moved on and the search continues.
