Half of all Spanish restaurants found to be selling fake fish

MORE than 50% of Spanish restaurants are mislabelling fish on their the menus.

The survey of more than 200 restaurants by AZTI Technology Centre showed that the largest percentage of incorrect labelling occurred with grouper, butterfish, dogfish, sole, hake and bluefin tuna.

Using DNA analysis, more than 300 samples were taken from 204 restaurants across the 15 main regional communities in Spain.
