Expat sprayed with ‘devil’s breath’ date rape drug on Spanish island and forced to empty bank account

DRUGGED: The man was holidaying in Playa de las Americas

AN IRISH expat has been sprayed with a date rape drug known as the ‘devil’s breath’ by a woman during robbery in Tenerife.

David Nelson, 27, was forced to empty his bank account after being attacked on the way home from drinks in Playa de las Americas.

A woman approached the Irishman and accused him of trying to seduce her, and then sprayed the date rape drug in his face.

“I remember very few things after being sprayed.

“My phone was taken, gold watch, bracelet, €600 from my wallet and I was then taken to a ATM and the girl proceeded to take what money she could from my Irish and Swiss bank accounts until the cards declined,” said Nelson.

POWERFUL: The drug turns victims into ‘zombies’

Authorities have repeatedly issued warnings about the drug, which is also known as scopolamine.

This comes after a Belgian man died in 2015 after being given the drug during an attempted robbery in Gran Canaria.

Nelson said: “This drug turns you into a zombie.”
