ESCORTED: An EasyJet cabin crew member was led away from police before being arrested for being ‘drunk’

AN EasyJet flight attendant has been escorted off a plane and arrested after allegedly being drunk while working.

The pilot radioed air traffic control at Newcastle Airport to alert the police before the aircraft from Alicante touched down.

Julie Birkett, 48, from Huddersfield has now been charged with performing an aviation function whilst unfit through drink, the Chronicle Live reported.

She is no longer employed by the budget airline and is set to appear in court in North Tyneside on September 4.

WARNING: The pilot of the plane warned staff at Newcastle Airport about the flight attendant before landing

The Yorkshirewoman and her crew served passengers on the service, which took off at 11:40pm on Friday and landed at 1:10am UK time on Saturday.

An EasyJet spokesperson said: “As this is a police matter we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation.

“EasyJet has a zero tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol and our rules and regulations are very clear.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority.”
