Policía Nacional agents drafted in to block looters from breaking into houses ruined by catastrophic Costa Blanca storms

POLICÍA NACIONAL have revealed that specially-designated agents will perform round-the-clock patrols of certain flood-hit areas to prevent looting.

Villages and towns across the Vega Baja area of Alicante region have been devastated by the gota fría storm that claimed the lives of seven people and trashed 300,000ha of land.

TARGETS FOR LOOTERS: Troops on alert

Agents from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of the Brigades of Public Safety of Alicante, Elche and Benidorm, will be shipped in to prevent opportunist thieves from looting empty or abandoned properties.

The agents will remain in the area until further notice.

Representatives of the Policía Nacional said that ‘no act of pillage has been officially registered in the municipality of Orihuela’ so far.
