DEPARTMENT store El Corte Ingles has closed its iconic shop in Malaga’s Plaza de la Constitución after more than ten years at the premises.
The closure is part of a massive restructuring plan at Europe’s largest department store, which has already seen it shut numerous shops across the country, including in Sevilla and Cadiz.
Employees at the outlet will be relocated to the company’s other stores in and around Malaga.
Bosses decided to not renew the lease on the building because of low footfall, company sources told La Opinion de Malaga.
The Plaza de la Constitución store mainly sold women’s clothing. The company’s fashion offering in Malaga will now be consolidated in its Avenida de Andalucia store, which is only a five minute walk from the square.
The shop closed its doors for the last time on Saturday.
