HUGE fire ignites near Alicante airport, firetrucks called, black smoke rises near car park

PASSENGERS at Alicante-Elche airport are hoping not to endure delayed flights as a fire has ignited at a nearby garbage dump.

The fire is at the municipality of Elche, next to the airport. The first fire truck came from the airport itself, followed by two more from stations. 

Luckily the airfield was not affected and planes were able to take off and land. 

It is unsure how the fire started, but a bundle of clothes in a landfill is thought to the main source of the inferno.

The fire was located near one of the airport’s car park, according to the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of the Diputacion de Alicante.
