Abandoned sofa in middle of motorway causes severe accident with four injured in Spain’s Almeria

Guardia Civil Trafico

A DUMPED sofa has left four men injured after causing a traffic accident on Sunday on the A-7 motorway in Almeria.

Andalucia’s Emergency Service 112 received several calls at around 4:40pm, warning of the abandoned furniture near the town of El Ejido.

Minutes later, the emergency telephone number received new warnings from various individuals claiming a car had crashed into the sofa before colliding with another vehicle.

The corresponding emergency protocol was activated and the Guardia Civil together with road maintenance rushed to the scene.

Health sources have confirmed that four men, two 37-year-olds, one 31-year-old man and another 39-year-old, were injured in the incident and have been transferred to the Poniente hospital.

Road traffic crashes are one of the world’s largest public health and injury prevention problems.

As of August of this year traffic accidents have claimed the lives of 543 people in Spain.
