‘Idiot’ drivers in Spain’s Malaga face hundreds of euros in fines after breaking this strict rule

POLICE have warned two drivers that they will be fined hundreds of euros each for breaking a strict rule in Malaga city.

It comes after a Porsche and a Mercedes were pictured driving through the city centre by a local.

The problem was the luxury vehicles were travelling through a zero emissions zone in the heart of the provincial capital’s historical district.

And not just down any street, but the iconic Calle Larios, which plays host to Malaga’s world-famous Christmas lights show each year.

The drivers were shopped to police by a local who shared a photo of their infraction on X.

The picture sparked outrage among locals who branded them ‘idiots’ and ‘guiris’ – although there has been no confirmation of where the drivers are from.

Police later confirmed to La Opinion de Malaga that they had checked the licence plates on security cameras and have prepared fines of up to €200 for each driver.

Calle Larios is part of a protected area in Malaga city, which means no one can drive through it without permission from the authorities.

It is also a completely pedestrianised zone, making the drivers’ actions a double infraction.

The cars were later pictured again, this time ‘parked illegally on a sidewalk’ in the La Trinidad neighbourhood, reports La Opinion.

Anyone driving through Malaga city centre must be aware of the low emissions zones and off-limit areas or they could face a fine.
