AN elderly man has died and at least three others have been injured, one critically, after an explosion tore through a bar in Andalucía.

The 81-year-old victim was walking past La Posada bar in Almeria when a suspected gas leak caused the premises to erupt in flames at around 5.20pm on Wednesday.

The powerful blast hurled flaming debris across the street and engulfed the passerby in a shockwave, authorities said, throwing him violently to the ground and sending him into cardiac arrest.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but despite desperate efforts, they were unable to revive him.

One of the victims, the bar’s owner, was left fighting for his life after suffering severe burns across his body.

He was taken to Torrecardenas University Hospital along with another injured person, who is being treated for smoke inhalation.

A third casualty was rushed to a nearby medical centre close to Almeria’s bullring, although their condition remains unknown.

The explosion is also believed to have triggered a secondary blast at a nearby garage and left several parked vehicles badly damaged.
