SPAIN’S long winter is set to finally wave goodbye as the long Easter weekend greets swathes of the country with sunshine and unseasonable warmth.
According to state weather agency Aemet, the mercury is set to climb up towards 30C in parts of Andalucia and the south by Monday, bringing a much-needed blaze of heat to Spain after a miserable few months.
The high winds that have blown across the Iberian peninsula this week are set to peter out, making way for a warm front that will ensure this year’s Semana Santa celebrations are conducted under blue skies.
That means Brits holidaying over the Easter break or residents with a few days off work will be free to head to the beach to soak up the rays, particularly on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca.
Temperatures will be highest in inland areas, especially around the Guadalquivir valley and near popular cities including Cordoba, Sevilla and further north in Badajoz.
High temperatures will also be enjoyed on the eastern coast, the Balearic Islands and swathes of Spain’s northern seaboard – so make sure to stock up on sunscreen and dust off your shades.
The early taste of summer is arriving ahead of schedule this year, with such high temperatures typically not seen until well into May.
However, it is not set to last for long with Aemet forecasting a significant drop in temperatures as early as next Tuesday.
The current mass of warm air covering Europe will be pushed away by strong westerly winds.
It will be replaced by a colder front that could coincide with the arrival of a DANA storm.
