Marbella police announce sudden crackdown on beach bars with a week of inspections just as summer party season kicks off

A CRACKDOWN on beach clubs and chiringuitos across Marbella kicks off tomorrow during the first week of the summer party season.

The Policia Local has announced a week-long blitz of inspections targeting the city’s popular seafront establishments, running from Monday, May 4, until Sunday, May 10.

Officers will be sweeping venues to scrutinise three key areas: paperwork and licences, hygiene and sanitary conditions, and compliance with technical and safety regulations.

The sudden clampdown comes just as many of Marbella’s famous beach clubs, heavily frequented by British tourists and expats, launch their opening parties for the busy May Bank Holiday weekend and the start of the summer season.

The authorities in Spain have stepped up inspections and rigorous technical checks this year, with immediate 48-hour closure notices increasingly issued to venues failing to meet updated safety certifications, such as those for kitchen extraction systems and fire suppression.

In a statement announcing the campaign on social media, the Policia Local said the objective is to ‘guarantee that both residents and visitors enjoy a safe and high-quality leisure offering’.

“We are working for a safe and excellent Marbella,” the statement read, thanking the public for their cooperation.
