Barcelona province placed under yellow weather alert for ‘heavy’ thunderstorms and intense rainfall  

BARCELONA province has been placed under a yellow weather alert this Tuesday, with warnings of heavy thunderstorms and intense rainfall across large parts of the area.

The alert comes as forecasters predict rainfall of up to 20mm in just one hour, particularly affecting inland and pre-coastal zones from midday to around 9pm.

Storms could also bring hail in some areas.

According to state weather agency Aemet, the morning will be cloudy, with heavier rainfall expected later in the day.

Winds will change direction, although they will mostly come from the south in some areas.

In Barcelona, the day started with cloudy skies and temperatures of around 14C and noticeable humidity making the air feel heavier than usual.

A light southeasterly breeze of around 10 km/h will be moving through the city.

Conditions are expected to worsen as the afternoon progresses, with a higher chance of rain that could last into the night. 

Despite highs of around 22C, it will feel cooler due to the damp conditions.

Neighbouring L’Hospitalet de Llobregat woke up to grey skies and a gentle breeze, with a temperature of 14C.

Rain is forecast to become widespread by the afternoon, with rushes of wind exceeding 30 km/h expected later in the day.

In Badalona, mostly cloudy skies have dominated since the early hours.

The temperature will remain cool, ranging between 12C and 21C. 

In the afternoon rain will intensify significantly , with humidity levels climbing to 85%, adding to the heavy feel in the air.

Further inland, Sabadell will see a similar pattern, with cloudy skies throughout the day and an increasing chance of rain into the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures there will range from 11C to 23C, accompanied by light winds from the southeast.

The yellow alert extends across several regions in Catalunya, including the pre-Pyrenees and central depression of Barcelona, as well as parts of Girona, Lleida and Tarragona provinces.
