TOURISTS and residents along the Costa Blanca might want to rethink a day at the beach as Aemet issues a yellow weather alert for much of Alicante.
The alert, issued by Spain’s official state meteorological agency, covers much of Alicante, including inland areas and the northern coastline.
Sudden downpours could dump up to 20mm in just one hour between midday and late evening.
While not expected to be continuous, the showers could be locally heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Alicante city, thunderstorms are most likely from midday onwards, with temperatures peaking at around 24C.
Winds will remain light, mainly from the east and south, although occasional stronger gusts are possible during storm activity.
Further south in Elche, stormy conditions could begin earlier, building in intensity through the afternoon.
Highs of 26C will keep things warm, despite the rain.

Benidorm will see a wet start, with rain and possible thunderstorms in the morning before conditions gradually improve later in the day.
Temperatures will remain steady between 16C and 21C.
Inland areas such as Elda and Alcoy will bear the brunt of the instability, with storms building from the morning and peaking around midday.
Both areas should see clearer skies by late afternoon.
Coastal towns including Torrevieja and Denia will experience spells of rain, with gradual improvement expected as the evening approaches.

Meanwhile, Orihuela will hit up to 27C, but rain and thunderstorms are likely.
While it’s only a yellow warning, conditions can change quickly due to unpredictable storms.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take care on the roads as sudden downpours may reduce visibility and cause surface water.
