OSCAR-NOMINATED actor Timothee Chalamet joins football rivals Lamine Yamal and Jude Bellingham in Adidas’ latest World Cup campaign shot on the streets of Barcelona.
In the star-studded advert, which reportedly cost $94 million, the streets of Llefia, a neighbourhood in Barcelona’s Badalona double up as downtown New York.
The Pista Verde pitch in the heart of the high-rise neighbourhood takes centre stage as a host of football legends take on an unbeatable local side.
In the advert, Chalamet assembles a world-class team featuring El Clasico rivals Bellingham and Yamal and US women’s football star Trinity Rodman to try and end the team’s 30-year winning streak.
They have previously seen off rivals including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Alessandro Del Piero, who are all generated by AI in the advert.
Beckham, Zidane and Messi reportedly raked in multi-million dollar fees for their contributions.
With cameos from Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Barcelona duo Pedri and Raphinha, World Cup veteran Messi and reggaeton sensation Bad Bunny, Adidas pulled out all the stops for the five-minute campaign.
Ahead of the World Cup, Adidas’ blockbuster advert has thrust Badalona into the spotlight – and with the barrio doubling convincingly for New York, Hollywood may soon come knocking again.
