A BUDGET airline has revealed new routes that will connect the UK to an ancient ‘hidden gem’ city in northern Spain.
The new routes will be operated by Jet2 and link London Gatwick and Edinburgh to Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
The Catalan city of Girona is known for its medieval architecture, Roman remains and landscaped gardens.
Beyond its own colourful buildings and beautiful scenery, it offers connections to the Costa Brava which is known for both traditional towns and holiday resorts.
Its airport already operated flights to London Luton and Stansted but now will increase its London offer by flying from Gatwick three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
The Edinburgh service will only operate on Sundays. This route to the Scottish capital had previously been operated by Ryanair and Jet2 with their services stopping in 2021 and 2019 respectively.
The expansion in connections strengthens the city’s international connectivity, particularly with the UK, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and Poland, according to the airport which now flies to 48 destinations across 15 countries.
London Gatwick and Edinburgh are just two of the new routes being offered this summer with the airport also introducing flights to Bucharest, Luxembourg and Palma.
