THE body of a Belgian expat who disappeared on the island of Fuerteventura earlier this month has been found dismembered in a landfill site.
Katty Oosterlinck, 56, had not been heard from since May 4 after family and friends lost contact with her in Corralejo, a popular tourist town located in the north of the island.
The Guardia Civil confirmed that her remains were discovered on Friday morning at the Zurita environmental complex, where investigators had been carrying out searches for several days.

At the same time, according to Canarias7, officers from the Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police unit in Las Palmas arrested Oosterlinck’s son, Aaron.
The 22-year-old, who is reportedly battling a serious drug addiction, immediately raised suspicions.
As police closed in and the evidence stacked up against him, he eventually cracked.
According to reports, he admitted to murdering his own mother before dismembering her body and dumping the remains in the bin.
The motives behind the alleged murder remain unclear.
The Belgian national was well known in Corralejo, where she had reportedly lived for years.
A large-scale search had been launched after her disappearance, involving police officers, volunteers, friends and relatives desperate to find answers.
One close friend made an emotional public appeal just hours before the body was discovered.
“She has lived in Corralejo for a long time, many people know her because she can always be found in the town,” the friend said.
The friend added that Oosterlinck was last seen on a beach on Sunday afternoon and that even her daughter had been unable to make contact with her afterwards.
On Friday afternoon, investigators conducted a reconstruction of events.
Officers were seen visiting the residence in the centre of Corralejo as well as several other locations believed to be connected to the investigation.
At the moment, the specific circumstances surrounding the killing have not been officially released
Forensic specialists from the Institute of Legal Medicine in Las Palmas will carry out an autopsy to establish the precise cause of death.
