TORREVIEJA’S population is continuing to grow with the local council claiming it is now at over 113,000 people- based on municipal padron numbers.
During the first quarter of 2026, the authority says it processed 3,568 new padron registrations.
There were also 1,603 changes of address and 1,879 renewals of foreign citizens.

Torrevieja says the numbers have surged further in April as irregular migrants register at a rate of around 60 per day- under the government’s initiative to ‘regularise’ them.
The National Statistics Institute(INE) is the national body that sets the population figures for Spain’s municipalities.
The INE at the end of last year officially declared Torrevieja’s number at 98,553 residents- significant variation.
The council is keen to get the INE ‘to catch up’ with its padron statistics, as a higher population results in greater national and regional government aid.
The authority stressed that the increase poses a challenge for public services and municipal infrastructures.
Torrevieja’s Department of Census and Statistics says that out of its 113,453 total figure, 56,126 are male and 57,327 female.
Over 62,000 of the residents are foreigners from 120 different nationalities, compared to 51,432 Spanish nationals, meaning that 57.4% of the population comes from abroad.
The Ukrainian community continues to be the largest among the foreign population, with 10,787 people registered.
They are followed by people from Colombia with 5,892 residents; Russia with 5,834; the United Kingdom with 4,671; and Morocco with 3,743 inhabitants.
The city also maintains a significant presence of European residents from countries such as Sweden, Romania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany and Poland, reinforcing the international flavour of the municipality.
The rate of growth intensified even more during the month of April, coinciding with the start of the regularisation of migrants in an irregular situation.
In just one month, 1,355 new registrations were registered on the padron and 8,167 certificates- 3,734 more than in March.
