EXPATS living in Andalucia have been urged to take precautions this weekend as the summer-like heat dome that has sizzled western Europe over the past week shows no sign of letting up.
Aemet, the state meteorological agency, has activated yellow weather alerts for several inland provinces of Spain’s southernmost mainland region for unseasonably intense heat for this time of year.
The warning covers Sevilla, Cordoba, Morena y Condado and Valle del Guadalquivir regions, where the mercury could climb to a sweltering high of 40C during the afternoon.

The alert is in place from 2pm to 8pm on Saturday, with hot air and stable weather conditions forecast to push temperatures up.
Other inland regions impacted by the severe heat include Vegas del Guadiana, Villuercas y Montanchez, Valle de Tajo and the metropolitan area of Madrid.
Temperatures could hit 38C near the Spanish capital.
The hot weather will also last into Sunday, with more warnings in Andalucia for 40C highs.
Elsewhere, thunderstorms are likely in inland Castellon and in northern Catalunya.
The latest warnings come as several heat-related records were broken in recent days, including in the UK where the highest temperature ever recorded in May was broken in two consecutive days.
In Spain, areas including Barcelona, Zamora, Pontefrada and Salamanca have all broken all-time records for this time of year.
Aemet says temperatures will slowly fall next week, bringing them to values more typical of early June.
Rainfall will remain scarce.
Authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and take extra precautions with vulnerable people, including the elderly, young children and those with underlying health conditions.
