Another daylight shooting rocks Barcelona as man is gunned down on same street where victim was killed last month

GUN violence continues to erupt across Catalunya neighbourhoods after a second death is recorded on the same road in less than a month.

The courtyard of a Sants-Montjuic neighbourhood was once again the location of a fatal shootout this weekend.

A deadly shooting took place in the Zona Franca district just before Barcelona increased its security presence for the arrival of Pope Leo XIV.

An unidentified man was shot multiple times and killed between the streets of Mineria and Mare de Deu del Port around 9pm, within the last remaining hours of daylight.

A video shared on X shows a group surrounding the victim in the aftermath.

One individual is shown attempting to revive the injured man on the ground.

The camera then pans over to the other members of the neighbourhood who witnessed the violent incident, including several children.

Catalan police and medical services attempted to resucitate the wounded individual, but he died within minutes from the multiple gunshot wounds.

The latest bloody event comes just weeks after another man was shot in the head and killed on the same street on May 16.

Authorities are now investigating the shoot out and attempting to track down the gunman who fled the scene.

The Olive Press recenty reported on how Barcelona’s shootings have doubled over the last few months, jumping from six to 12 from April to May.

Frontline officers in northern Spain have said they feel overworked and ‘burnt out’ as they face highly organised gangs with dwindling operational resources.

A USPAC union spokesman said: “While shootings, firearms and criminality increase, the operational resources available to the police on the streets of Catalunya are actively decreasing.”
