British father blames teenage son’s sudden death while on holiday in Benidorm on vape oil

British Father blames vape oil sold to their teenage son while on holiday in Benidorm for his sudden death

A BRITISH teenager has died during a Costa Blanca holiday after an adverse reaction to vape oil, his family has said.

Harry Whitton, 18, from Dundee, was in Benidorm with his girlfriend Karina when he began struggling to breathe after using a vape his family believes he bought in the resort.

The date of the tragedy has not been disclosed.

Colin Whitton, his father, posted online that his son, who worked in hospitality for Dundee and Dundee United football clubs, had ‘a reaction to something…we think it was his vape’.

Mr Whitton said: “We received the preliminary post-mortem results for Harry today, and would like to share some info in the hope to quash any rumours and to warn everyone about the dangers of vaping.”

Whitton said Harry’s throat constricted, causing breathing problems, after he and his girlfriend had been out for lunch.

They had also both had a cocktail with their meal.

“If one thing comes from the loss of our boy Harry, it has to be us highlighting the dangers of using vapes/oils etc,” Mr. Whitton continued.

“He had recently bought a vape oil in Benidorm, and it is the only difference between what he has been using and what his girlfriend was using.”

Harry’s mother, Debbie Bell, told Metro that the family would be ‘having the vape oil tested’ for a ‘contained substance’ once they return to Scotland.

“As a family we are here in Spain doing everything we can to get our boy home! We are together & supporting each other.”

Harry’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the teenager’s body to be repatriated.

In a statement, they said: “We should be arranging his surprise 18th, instead we will be home to arrange a funeral. It’s all just very unimaginable & feels very unreal.”

“We want to share with you all just how loved and special our boy truly was.”

“Everything he done, he done with his cheeky character and pure heart and soul.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Benidorm and are in contact with the local authorities.”
