Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport continues to break records with more than 10 million passengers in first five months of 2026

MALAGA Airport has continued its record-breaking 2026 after registering more than 10 million passengers across the first five months of the year for the very first time.

According to figures released by Spanish airport operator Aena, 10,455,108 passengers used the airport between January and May – a 7.1 per cent increase on the same period last year.

More than 8.5 million of those used the airport for international flights, with the remaining number on board domestic trips to and from other destinations within Spain.

The statistics mean Malaga is Spain’s fourth-busiest airport, behind only Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat and Palma de Mallorca – all of which also saw a year-on-year increase in passengers numbers of at least four per cent.

Back in Malaga, the month of May alone saw more than 2.7 million passengers use the airport – an increase of 6.3 per cent on 2025 and yet another record-breaking figure.

By country, the UK remains the undisputed top dog with an astonishing 659,628 Brits using the airport last month.

The UK is then followed by Germany, the Netherlands, France and Italy.

So far this year, more than 124 million passengers have travelled through Spanish airports.

That marks a 3.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
