Tragedy as British boy, 4, drowns in swimming pool on second day of family holiday in rural Malaga villageĀ 

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD British boy has tragically died after falling into a swimming pool near Malaga while on holiday with his parents.

The incident took place around 8.30am this morning (Wednesday) when emergency services were alerted to a child falling into a pool at a rural holiday farmhouse near the village of Periana, north-east of Malaga.

A medical helicopter was quickly dispatched as both Guardia Civil and Policia Local teams rushed to the scene.

Despite the best efforts from emergency responders, the child could not be saved.

The family had arrived at the remote cottage on Tuesday at the start of their holidays, according to SUR, with the boy reported to be an only child.

ā€œToday is a profoundly sad day for our people,” the Periana Town Hall said.

ā€œWords cannot truly alleviate such immense grief, but we want to offer our heartfelt support and solidarity during this difficult time.ā€

The body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Malaga for post-mortem examination as the Guardia Civil continue investigating the incident.
