What is the new travel trend of ‘dusking’ and why has Tenerife named among the world’s top destinations for it?

A NEW travel trend dubbed ‘dusking’ is gaining traction across the world, with Tenerife named one of the leading destinations for the practice.

The concept encourages travellers to slow down at the end of the day and head outdoors to watch the sunset, switching off devices and focusing on the changing light and transition from day to night.

Travel connectivity company Holafly has ranked destinations into a Global Dusking Index, using factors such as atmospheric conditions, online search interest, and social media engagement.

Tenerife ranked highly due to its clear skies, dramatic volcanic landscapes and expansive Atlantic views.

Other sought-after destinations included Santorini, in Greece, and Bali, in Indonesia.

Tenerife’s Mount Teide National Park was highlighted as a key location, where sunsets above the cloud layer at over 3,500 metres can produce vivid colour displays.

Other viewpoints included Punta de Teno and Playa de La Tejita, both known for clear horizons and low light pollution.

Industry observers say ‘dusking’ reflects wider demand for slower, digitally disconnected holidays, with sunset viewing increasingly treated as a core activity rather than a secondary feature of trips.
