A MOTHER and her daughter aged 61 and 31 have been found dead in a fire in a Mijas home last night.
The Guardia Civil confirmed to The Olive Press that the fire was not the cause of death and that both were ‘violent’, with a possible case of gender-based violence under investigation.
A double murder prior committed prior to the house fire is one working hypothesis.
Neither of the victims were registered with the ‘VioGen’ system, Spain’s digital tool for protecting women against gender violence, although the daughter had reportedly suffered abuse from an ex-partner in 2013.
Police and emergency services were called to the property on Calle Tulipan in Laguna de Mijas at around 2.15am last night.
Both mother and daughter were of Spanish origin.
Investigators are not ruling out any possibility yet, with the cause of the fire and its circumstances still unclear.
