BRITS planning a summer escape can bag a bargain in Spain, where stays cost a fraction of traditional UK staycations.
Data from holiday rental portal Holidu shows a single night in Edinburgh now commands an average of £451.
That makes a stay in Scotland’s capital more expensive than Marbella, Palma, or any major Mediterranean resort.
In contrast, budget-conscious holidaymakers heading to Murcia will pay just £107 per night on average.
It means a full four-night stay in southern Spain costs less than a single night in Scotland.
Spain continues to dominate British summer travel choices, taking eight of the top 10 most searched destinations and 24 of the top 50 overall on Holidu’s UK platform.
Andalucia is proving particularly popular for 2026, with Malaga ranking as the second most searched destination overall at £194 per night, closely followed by Nerja in third place at £182.
The Costa Blanca also features heavily in the top rankings, with Benidorm placing fourth at £205 per night, while Marbella completes the top five at £297.
Palma (£324), Benalmadena (£192), Alicante (£175), and Alcudia (£377) also landed in the top 10, proving Spain’s overwhelming appeal for UK travellers.
The price contrast is starkest when comparing Spanish bargain spots to British coastal destinations.
While UK seaside towns like Tenby and Saundersfoot in Wales offer the cheapest domestic stays at around £200 a night, Spanish alternatives like Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca come in at just £129 per night.
Holidu analysed searches made on holidu.co.uk by British travellers for stays between July 1 and August 31, 2026, calculating median prices for rentals sleeping two to eight people.
With flight prices staying competitive, the figures highlight that jetting off to the Spanish sunshine is frequently a far cheaper option than booking a staycation at home.
