A MAXIMUM level emergency warning for very high temperatures has been activated for two areas of Spain on Wednesday.
Red alerts have been issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) which signify ‘extraordinary danger’ and a ‘danger to life’.
They apply to Zaragoza province in the Aragon region and to coastal areas of Valencia province.

It is expected that temperatures could reach 42C during the latest heatwave to hit Spain.
Aemet warns that fire risks increase and that vulnerable people like the elderly should stay out of the sun.
It states that recommendations of local Civil Protection departments should be followed.
Elsewhere, Aemet says that temperatures are expected to be ‘significantly’ high in the Balearic Islands and in the eastern half of Spain, as well as in areas of Alboran and the Guadalquivir.
It adds that there will also be notable increases in maximum values in the pre-coastal areas of the Valencian Community and Catalunya.
Andalucia, the Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalunya, and the Murcia region are on orange alert(significant danger) for maximums ranging between 38C and 41C.
Yellow alerts(low danger) have been issued for the Madrid region, Navarre, and La Rioja where temperatures could reach 38C.
