A BRITISH man was found dead in his Costa del Sol apartment after authorities came to evict him for not paying rent for over two years.
The 40-year-old reportedly took his own life after locking himself in his bedroom, in a property in the Altos del Rodeo urbanisation in Nueva Andalucia, Marbella.Â
Authorities showed up to the property on Tuesday, after receiving permission to evict the tenant, after he’d failed to pay rent for over two years, handing the property back to the rightful owner.
After initially opening the door to the authorities, the unnamed Brit asked for some time to gather his things before his eviction.
He then reportedly proceeded to lock himself in the bedroom and refused to come out.
Police were called on to the scene, where they proceeded to break into the room by force, where they found him dead.
According to reporting by El Mundo, the Brit had apparently had several criminal convictions – including theft, fraud and domestic violence charges.
He had reportedly also had his passport confiscated as he was categorised as a potential flight risk.
The police have not labeled the death as suspicious, and are not investigating other people related to the incident.
