MALAGA has claimed over a third of all ultra-luxury homes for sale across Spain, comfortably beating both Madrid and the Balearics in the three-million-euro market.
New figures published by property portal idealista reveal the Costa del Sol province boasts 3,671 properties listed above €3 million as of June.
That means 35% of all top-tier mansions currently on the Spanish market are located in Malaga alone.
The Balearics sit in second place for ultra-luxury homes with 2,942 listings, accounting for 28% of the national market.
Madrid falls significantly behind in third place with 1,830 properties priced above €3 million, representing 17% of the total.
These are also more likely to be semi-regular homes and apartments than the kind of lavish villas of the ultra-wealthy imagination due to Madrid’s wealth concentration.

In the broader luxury market for homes priced above €1 million, Spain currently has 46,454 properties advertised nationwide.
Malaga and Madrid tie for top spot in the overall million-euro category, with each province holding 20% of the national inventory.
They are followed by the Balearics with 17%, while Barcelona and Alicante each account for 12% of million-euro listings.

A staggering 86% of all million-euro homes are concentrated in just six provinces, including Girona with 5%.
By contrast, 13 Spanish provinces have no homes listed above €3 million, while Soria and Palencia have zero properties for sale above €1 million.
The figures highlight a dramatic wealth divide between popular expat coastal hubs and the Spanish interior.
