THE Valencian Community endured its hottest-ever night according to modern records with temperatures not falling below 30C in many areas during Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The Valencian Association of Meteorology (Avamet) described the freak temperatures as ‘akin to Dante’s Inferno’.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), said that from around midnight, the westerly wind turned along the entire coast of Valencia province and the north of Alicante province, causing temperatures to rise and humidity to drop below 30%.
Temperatures at 12am hit between 35C and 37C in some areas with Denia on the Costa Blanca soaring to an incredible 39C.
Avamet said that ‘we have experienced the hottest night since records started in most towns in the Valencian Community’.
Out of the 677 Avamet weather stations in the region, 77% of them did not fall below 25C while 130 registered night-time temperatures above 30C.
According to Avamet, values above 35C were recorded in nearly 100 municipalities at midnight.
In Alicante province, more than 30 municipalities did not fall below 30C during the early morning, which is normally the coolest time of day.
Inland towns such as Pego reached 38C while Redovan, Orihuela or Pedreguer did not fall below 35C.

Meanwhile, Aemet reported that during the day on Wednesday, Valencia City reported its fourth-highest temperature since records started being kept in 1869.
Temperatures reached 42.8C, with the record being 44.5C on August 10, 2023 and 43C on July 26, 1881 and August 27, 2010.
Significant changes across the region are expected on Thursday with alerts issued by Aemet.
Cloud will increase during the afternoon and warnings are active for strong gusts of wind coupled with storms.
