GANG violence fears have gripped Malaga after a man was gunned down in broad daylight, with a woman arrested over the killing.

The victim, believed to be aged in his 40s, was shot dead in Zalea, a small village in the municipality of Pizarra.

Emergency services began receiving calls as witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots at around 1.55pm on Monday.

Paramedics and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene but were unable to save the victim, who investigators believe was a resident of Zalea.

The Guardia Civil have confirmed a woman was detained over the killing.

Investigators suggested the shooting could be linked to a settling of scores, though they have released no further details about the probe.

The Guardia Civil has yet to release the identity of the victim or confirm the precise motive for the attack.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The shooting comes amid growing concern over a series of gun attacks across Malaga province in recent months.

A Dutch national and a Policia Local officer were injured last week after gunmen opened fire in broad daylight near a hotel on Marbella’s Golden Mile.

The Dutchman was shot in the leg during the attack, while the officer was hurt as police swooped on the suspects following a car chase that ended in Nagüeles.

Two Dutch nationals and a Dane were arrested over the shooting, with investigators linking the incident to an apparent settling of scores between rival gangs.
