BUDGET airline easyJet has unveiled six new routes connecting holidaymakers in the UK to Spain next summer – including flights to an ancient ‘hidden gem’ city in Catalunya.
The British airline will fly to Girona Airport for the first time, with new services from Liverpool and London Gatwick opening up direct links to the historic city and the nearby Costa Brava.
The Liverpool-Girona route will launch on March 28, operating twice a week on Wednesday and Sundays, while flights from Gatwick will begin on June 3, operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Girona, located in the heart of Catalunya in north-eastern Spain, is famed for its medieval old town, colourful riverside houses and ancient city walls.
The airport also offers easy access to the beaches and resorts of the Costa Brava, while Barcelona is just an hour away by bus – making it a potentially cheaper travel route for budget-conscious visitors.
The airline is also adding four other Spanish connections from UK airports.
Aberdeen will gain new routes to Barcelona and Mallorca, while Liverpool will get a twice-weekly service to Murcia from March 29.
Edinburgh will also welcome a new connection to Bilbao from March 30, operating twice a week.

The Aberdeen-Barcelona route will begin on March 31, with easyJet becoming the only airline to offer a direct service between the Scottish city and the Catalan capital.
Meanwhile, the Aberdeen-Mallorca route launches on May 3 next spring.
The six new Spanish routes form part of 18 new connections going on sale across the UK for summer 2027, linking British airports with destinations including France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Montenegro and Bulgaria.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be offering 18 new routes and package holidays for summer 2027 which shows our commitment to providing customers across the UK with more choice from their local airport.
“Our Spanish network is greatly expanding with six new routes from the UK including Girona for the first time, and we’re also further strengthening our presence in Scotland, where we’re already the largest airline, with six new routes from Aberdeen and Edinburgh airports.
“Whether customers are planning a summer beach holiday, a city break or a chance to explore somewhere new, there’s never been a better time to book a flight or package holiday with easyJet.”
Seats are now on sale, with fares starting from £35 (€40) one way.
Package holidays are also available on all new routes.
